A projekt teljes címe: CIVIC EPISTEMOLOGIES: Development of a Roadmap for Citizen Researchers in the age of Digital Culture.

The NSL’s participation in the Civic Epistemologies project

In my presentation I would like to show detailed the European Union project in the title mentioned, especially describing the tasks of NSL.

The full title of the project is the following: CIVIC EPISTEMOLOGIES: Development of a Roadmap for Citizen Researchers in the age of Digital Culture. It is one of the projects of the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration , and it aims to develop and validate a Roadmap for the use of e-Infrastructures to support the participation of European citizens in research on cultural heritage and digital humanities.

There are two unavoidable terms in this topic: crowdsourcing and citizen science, these notions are not well presented in the domestic public consciousness however, this project is the good example, that this topic receive substantial attention on the international scene. In my presentation I am going to give detailed definitions of these terms.

In order to the more precise discover of the possibility and conditions of the citizen researchers’ participation there are several partners from the different fields of the whole value-chain. Not only the cultural heritage institutions (in addition to the NSL for example the Swedish National Archives ) but the e-infrastructure providers, research institutions, institutions of higher education and even the policy makers are represented in the project to ensure the wide perspective examination of the questions about the citizens participations in scientific research.

A major goal beyond the Roadmap’s development is to validate it, and to establish the network of common interest. For this goal it is essential to initiate a dialogue on the topic, to make more people get familiar with the notions, and the main objective of my presentation is to promote the goals set above.
