SULINET - 150/150 Mbps - Veszprem We have a regional HBONE center at University of Pannonia since 20 years. The center has big integrational role in developement and organisation of IT at regional schools, libraries, museums, high schools and scientific institutions. In earlier years we made the fiber backbone in the city to connect the universities' local sites, the Eotvos Karoly County Library and Chatolic High School Veszprem (VHF). Its speed is 1Gbps. Two secondary school (named Ipari and Lovassy) involved in IT connected to University via WiFi at 2.4GHz and 11 Mbps. After that the Lacko Dezso Museum connected also via WiFi. At that time started the 1st version of the SULINET program, which used the ADSL technology at 1-4 Mbps. Today this bandwidth should be opsolete. Every internet provider offer more bandwith for home or personal usage. In 2013 Padanyi Primary School connected at 5GHz. LLG Secondary School also changed to 5GHz soon at 56 Mbps. To manage the bandwidth problem the government assigned NIIF to initiate the Sulinet+ program. Because its state was not publicly know the local schools made different steps to increase their bandwidth. Than the goverment made some changes in the financing of the schools. Since that two organisations (KLIK and ISZSZ) have to manage and control them. The ISZSZ organised a forum at the University about Sulinet and the bandwidth problem. At that time we made a test connection to Kossuth Primary School at 150/150 Mbps with Ubiquity AirGrid M5 HP device pairs. It worked good and the Inetrnet connection was fast. After that the KLIK (motivated by ISZSZ) has bought 22 devices to build 11 connections. The shortest connection is 200 m and the longest is 12 km. We have built the connection together with IT persons at schools. And we educated them about is. The connection is arriving to a Cisco 2960S router at the university. From here each connection goes into a dedicated vlan, which connects them to the NIIF's router. So the IP service is provided by NIIF. One technically interesting thing is next: in the mean time most of the schools have an alternete cATV based connection to Sulinet also. The management of the system is operated by and NIIF and the University. The university manages the WiFi devices - in the city we simply call them arials -. Basically we have integrated them to our Nagios management system. It sends us SMS, and sends email for IT personals at schools. The email address we use is sulinet@veszprem.hu. We use it as a forum also. It helps us to motivate and to strength the cooperation between the schools and the university.
