A mai fiatalok az internet nemzedékbe tartoznak, számukra természetes és megszokott a számítógépek, az okostelefonok és az internet használata. A hallgatók igénylik a személyre szóló képzést, az időben rugalmasan hozzáférhető tananyagot. A megváltozott tanulási szokásokhoz az egyetemi képzésnek is alkalmazkodnia kell. A távoktatás olyan tanulási, oktatási módszer, mely képes jövőbemutató megoldást kínálni a hallgatók és a társadalom képzési igényeire. A Moodle egy világszerte és Magyarországon is elterjedt, nyílt forráskódú, ingyenes (GNU GPL) licenc alatt terjesztett, PHP nyelven íródott eLearning keretrendszer. A Debreceni Egyetemen évek óta használjuk a Moodle távoktatási rendszereket. Az alkalmazási lehetőségekről számos tapasztalat gyűlt össze, ezeket szeretnénk ismertetni. A Moodle kurzusok elemei két nagy csoportba sorolhatóak: Tananyag és Tevékenység. A tananyag tartalmazhat szöveges és multimédiás elemeket is. A tevékenységek közül legfontosabbak a tesztek, a wikipédiák és a fórumok. A tesztek gyakorlásra és vizsgáztatásra is alkalmasak. A wikipédia és fórum anyagának összeállításában a hallgatók is részt vehetnek, tanári ellenőrzéssel. A hallgatók részvétele és teljesítménye nyomonkövethető, ez segít a figyelem folyamatos fenntartásában és az oktatói adminisztrációs munka elvégzésében. Összegezve: A Moodle rendszerben a tananyagok digitális formában és mobil eléréssel állnak rendelkezésre. A távoktatás alkalmazásával a hallgatók és az oktatók rugalmasabban oszthatják be idejüket. A hallgatók személyre szóló képzést kaphatnak. Az oktatóknak több ideje marad arra, hogy bizonyos tananyagrészek esetében személyesen foglalkozzanak a hallgatóval.

Our students belong to the so called internet generation. They are “digital natives” and all have access to networked digital technologies. These youth create and use digital spaces for social interaction and they use the internet as a learning environment. They require the personal education and the flexible accessing of the learning materials. The education systems must be transformed in order to cater to these computer-savvy students. A proper and up-to-date tool to achieve this goal is the application of a e-learning system. The Moodle is a proper tool, it is a popular and widespread CMS (Course Management System). This virtual learning environment has been being used for years at the University of Debrecen and we obtained much experiences. The elements of the Moodle courses can be grouped as Resources and Activities. Moodle supports a range of resource types which teachers can add to their courses, mainly text and multimedia learning materials. The most important activities are Quiz, Assignment, Wikipedia, Lesson and Forum. The Quiz allows the teacher to create quiz tests, which may be automatically marked. The Lesson can provide the learning materials in felxible ways. The e-learning system can follow and log the participation and quiz grades of the students. This feature helps to maintain the continuous attention of the students. Summary: the Moodle provides digital learning materials. The resources and activities can be accessed on the web and the students can take the courses from virtually anywhere. The use of the e-learning system frees up the teachers time to concentrate on teaching. The benefits of the Moodle are many, ranging from its flexibility, support for up-todate modes of learning and teaching, user-friendly interface, and its longevity and viability into the future.
