Magyar Tudományos Művek Tára (MTMT) célja, hogy legyen egy országos tudományos bibliográfiai adatbázis Magyarországon. A MTA, a MAB, a MRK, az OTKA és az ODT 2008. második felében, mint alapító intézmény, továbbá a koncepciót támogató OKM és NKTH egyetértett abban, hogy a hazai tudományos kutatás hiteles nyilvántartását és bemutatását kell megvalósítani a rendszerhez csatlakozó intézményekkel együttműködve. A programhoz 2012 májusáig az MTA, valamint a legtöbb felsőoktatási intézmény csatlakozott. Az intézmények listája megtekinthető a www.mtmt.hu oldalon. A jelentkezők száma folyamatosan bővül. Az MTMT nem csupán az MTA kutatóhálózatát érinti, hanem a teljes kutatás/felsőoktatás területét is kiszolgálja. Az MTMT-ben lévő adatokból és adatkapcsolatokból nagyon szofisztikált elemzések készíthetők. Ez elindított egy folyamatot, egy újfajta gondolkodást a tudományos teljesítmény értékelésére, de a szemléletváltás néhány évet igénybe vesz. A rendszer az egyénre szabott (tudományterület) értékelésre is lehetőséget biztosít. Folyamatosan új igények, elvárások jelennek, ezért szükséges volt a rendszer újratervezésére, amely az MTMT2 Projektben TÁMOP forrásból történik. Az MTMT2 fejlesztésnek ezért van kiemelt szerepe, mert egy olyan szoftver architektúrát és technológiát kell kialakítani, amely a következő 3-5 éves időszakot költséghatékonyan kiszolgálja.

MTMT I. - Scientists and their host Institutions

The Hungarian Scientific Bibliography (abbreviated as MTMT for the Hungarian name, Magyar Tduományos Művek Tára) is a national system to collect and organize the scientific output of Hungary’s higher education system and research institutes. This activity was launched in 2009 by the founders, the Hungarian Accreditation Committee, the Hungarian Rectors Conference, the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS). It was based on a similar system of research institutes and scientific associates of the HAS, which was expanded and further developed in order to be able to cover the scientific output of approximately 45 thousand Hungarian scientists and their host institutions. At the moment, the host institutions of about two thirds of the Hungarian scientists are affiliated with MTMT and the list is growing. At about the same time similar but slightly different systems have been built in the Netherlands (NARCIS) and some other European institutional scientific bibliographies have been launched linked to institutional repositories. MTMT’s underlying principles are the following. (a) It is open to all Hungarian scientists and their host institutions. (b) The institutions sign a contract with MTMT to provide funds to cover the costs of the centralized part of the system and accept responsibilities for uploading their recent scientific bibliography into the centralized database. (c) Responsibility for the validity of the personal and institutional part of the bibliography is shared by the institution and the individual scientist. (d) A quality control system is being developed to insure validity using a centralized as well as distributed components. (e) MTMT aims to collect data on all scientific work of the scientists, but accepts data on related but non-scientific writings of the scientists involved, so that both a scientific and a full bibliography of the scientists is available from the system.
