3.4 Elektronikus könyvtárak, kiállítások, portálok, repozitóriumok

Érdemes-e MARC formátumban leírni kéziratos anyagokat, kódexeket? Milyen hazai és nemzetközi példákat találunk a kódexek leírására? Az ELTE Egyetemi Könyvtár összesen 185 kódexet őriz, melyek korszerű leírása, könnyebben hozzáférhetővé tétele a kutatók számára fontos feladata a Könyvtárnak. Az EDIT Digitális Intézményi Tudástárban jelenleg 75 digitalizált kódex található az állományból. Az Egyetemi Könyvtár igyekszik az értékes gyűjtemény részletes leírásait alapul véve feldolgozni MARC formátumban az integrált könyvtári rendszerben a köteteket és a kulcsfontosságú adatelemeket átemelni az intézményi repozitóriumba Dublin Core formátumban is. Tapasztalataink szerint nem gyakori a kódexek MARC formátumban történő részletező leírása az elektronikus katalógusokban, viszont van néhány nemzetközi példa arra, hogy komolyan foglalkoznak a problémával és a szabványos bibliográfiai leíráshoz külön útmutatók készültek. Előadásomban kiemelek néhányat ezekből a segédanyagokból, és a hasznosításuk lehetőségeiről is szólok. Továbbá bemutatom, hogy ha nem MARC formátumban, akkor hogyan jelenítik meg a különböző hazai és külföldi intézmények a kódex–gyűjteményeik leírását az interneten (sokszor külön portálokat, adatbázisokat építenek ilyen célokra) Kitérek a portál vagy különálló adatbázis és a MARC formátumú leírás előnyeire és hátrányaira is. Továbbá az új leírási szabványok közül a Resource Description and Access (RDA) esetében megvizsgálom, hogy mennyire alkalmas a kéziratos anyagok, kódexek leírására, esetlegesen milyen adatokkal kell kiegészíteni a MARC–leírásokat, hogy összhangban legyenek az RDA-val. Ezeken kívül összefoglalóan bemutatom a digitálisan elérhető kódexeket és leírásaikat az ELTE intézményi repozitóriumában.

Codex descriptions in MARC format at the ELTE University Library and digitalized codices in the EDIT Institutional Repository

Is the MARC format a good choice to describe manuscripts and codices? What kind of examples do we find for the detailed descriptions of codices in Hungary and abroad? The ELTE University Library owns 185 codices. It is an important task for the library to describe them in the Integrated Library Software (ILS) and to make them accessible online for the researchers. The EDIT Digital Institutional Repository contains 75 digitalized volumes of the codex collection. One of the aim of the University Library is to make detailed descriptions of the valuable manuscripts (codices) in MARC format, based upon the available printed scholarly descriptions. It is also an important part of the work to convert the data in MARC format to Dublin Core format for the repository. We can find lots of platforms with description of different codices, however those descriptions are usually not available in MARC format. Despite of this, there are some institutions and organizations making substantial efforts to describe manner the manuscript materials in a really detailed and even to standardize their method. In my presentation I will show some of them and I will summarize the possible applications of the standards for the detailed MARC descriptions. Besides of that I will present some other ways for the publication of the codex descriptions, e.g. building an individual portal or database for them. I also summarize the advantages and the disadvantages of the MARC format descriptions and the database or portal solutions. Finally facing to the future, I will discuss the usability of the new standard, the Resource Description and Access (RDA) for manuscript descriptions. During the presentation I will show the MARC format codex descriptions of the University Library catalogue and the access to the codices in the institutional repository.
